If there is anywhere in the UK that conjures up images of seaside fun then it is Blackpool. Blackpool has been entertaining families for generations. It is one of those places that families return to year after year because they know that all of their family’s needs will be taken care of, young or old, as Blackpool is a seaside resort that offers something for everyone. Traditional family run guesthouses and B&B’s still offer affordable accommodation to families looking for an authentic experience, while there are plenty of hotels to choose from too. Aside from the ever popular beach, the annual illuminations which attract thousands of visitors into the town, and of course the iconic Blackpool Tower, these are plenty of things to see and do while you are here.

Attractions

A trip to Blackpool Zoo makes a great day out for all the family. The zoo has in excess of 1,500 animals as well as an incredible variety of insects and birds from all around the globe. The children will enjoy watching the meerkats at play as well as seeing the penguins and lemurs as well as the inhabitants of the reptile house. There are plenty of the bigger animals there too such as lions, gorillas and giraffes.

If the zoo is a little too sedate for you, you and the kids could head to the Nickelodeon Land Theme Park which is geared towards the younger members of the family, or if the kids are older you could enjoy the thrills of the rides on Blackpool’s famous Pleasure Beach. There are plenty of celebrities to have your photo taken with at the new Madame Tussauds and the Model Village and Gardens will have the kids feeling like giants as they wander around tiny villages and tower over the miniature Scottish castle.

Things to Do

The Sandcastle Waterpark is another great place for families, here you can choose to gently float along on a lazy river ride or experience some white water on the longest indoor waterslide rollercoaster in the world, it even has a section that runs uphill. Blackpool’s Sea Life Centre lets you explore the incredible undersea world of both the UK coast and that of the coral reefs and deep water areas of the world. Here you and the kids can get up close and personal with all kinds of marine life. No visit to the seaside here would be complete without a trip to the top of Blackpool Tower. The tower has five floors and makes a great place to go if the weather outside is not so good. The tower has its own circus, as well as an indoor play area, and of course there is the iconic Tower Ballroom should you wish to trip the light fantastic while you are here. Other attractions include the Blackpool Tower Dungeon if you are up for a scare or two and the Blackpool Eye which offers incredible views of the coastline and of course this popular seaside town.
